Why Not Now?

The Soul of General George

So I have said stand.  And I say that the same old stuff from the same old parties should be put to rest.  I sure don’t want what the Dems are dishing and the Repubs keep saying they need to get back in power to change things.  Really?  What exactly did they change last time around?

The experts keep saying that this is not the time to make a stand.  I even heard Thomas Sowell last night say that he believes that nothing gets accomplished by doing something like what Ted Cruz did.  He even compared it to Washington (that’s George in case you likely forgot) and the fact that GW did not stand and fight as he would lose to the far superior and much better trained British forces.  I understand and agree that is what GW had to do- he had no choice.  He wasn’t trying to save a country, he was trying to get one started and, oh by the way Mr. Sowell, he was trying to save his forces and also likely his own skin.  This is not a very valid comparison to my rudimentary way of thinking.

Okay though, I will give you the comparison and even agree that there is a time and place for a fight and I will even admit that the effort by Cruz did not yield any immediate or significant results.  I wonder how many times in history though that a protest, a pushback was allowed to get effectively started only when the time was right.  When was it right for the colonists that formed this country?  When was it right for Gandhi?  When was it right for MLK?  When was it too late for Russia, or China, or Japan, or Germany?  It’s fine to sit back in total comfort and simply keep saying the time is not right, that we need to have power before we have power and we cannot even think of acting before we have the power that we need to have.

No, I’m sorry but I don’t think that simply voting back in the same old Repubs is going to accomplish much more than it did last time.  Oh sure, it is a far better alternative in terms of providing the triage necessary to stem the bleeding and harm being done on a daily basis by the Dems and the Progressive Libs but simply causing pause does not in the end precipitate recovery.  Not even close.  How can anyone think that it does?  You’re then a fool and you certainly don’t know much history.

I will give you all points in the argument however.  I will then simply ask just when is it right to make a fight?  And how far are we prepared to go in that fight if it is fought by the same old sad excuses that we have in WDC as our legislators?  The uniforms may change but the team remains essentially the same.

Hell, even Reagan couldn’t yank us back and I think he really tried didn’t he?  I know that he didn’t have the House or Senate but still.  Nudges and tugs against shoves and yanks cannot  in the end bring victory.

And we have been losing for a long time my friends.  It’s time to change the approach.  General Washington would have seen that even if Thomas Sowell does not.
